A Dental Technician is a crucial member of the dental team, who is responsible for the production of all removable and fixed dental appliances, such as partial and complete dentures, orthodontic appliances, crowns, bridges and maxillo-facial prostheses.

Advanced Diploma in Dental Technology

The Hospital offers a 2-year full-time training course leading to the award of Advanced Diploma in Dental Technology for eligible local students in academic year 2024/25. Student can work as dental technician upon graduation. Dental Technician is a crucial member of the dental team, who is responsible for the production of all removable and fixed dental appliances, such as partial and complete dentures, orthodontic appliances, crowns, bridges and maxillofacial prostheses.

 

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

(1) Inform and explain to the dentists about the selection of materials and laboratory procedures for constructing the required dental appliances;

(2) Select appropriate dental technology techniques and suitable materials, according to dentists’ prescription in constructing dental appliances/ dental accessories; and

(3) Apply the general principles and laboratory procedures in making simple dental appliances, and CAM/CAM technology in making dental implant prosthesis

Attendance

About 36 hours per week (including lectures and practical sessions).
Normal class hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
All lectures, practical sessions and other class activities are mandatory.

  • Private dental laboratory
  • Clinics of dental practitioners
  • Education institute / Non-governmental organisation

Admission Requirements

(1) Five subjects, including English Language, attaining Level 2 or above in HKDSEE*^ or equivalent; or

(2) Five subjects, including English Language#, attaining Grade E/ Level 2 or above in HKCEE, or equivalent; or

(3) Diploma of Applied Education, Diploma Yi Jin or equivalent qualification(s); or

(4) Aged 21 or above at the start of the commencing academic year.

 

* Apart from English Language, the other four subjects could be:

         – “Attained” or above in Applied Learning (ApL) subjects [subject to a maximum of two ApL subjects], or

         – Grade E or above in other language subjects.

^ “Attained” in Citizenship and Social Development is regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at Level 2

# For English Language (Syllabus A) in pre-2007 HKCEE, only Grade C or above will be considered.

 

Tuition Fee

HK$ 31,575 per academic year (in two equal instalments)

Subject to the Government’s revision of course fee; and non-refundable unless the course is cancelled.

*    Applicants are allowed to apply for more than one course on the same Application Form, which preference order should be filled in carefully as the order will affect admission result. Should there be any preference change after application submission or interview, please submit request to pdtc@ppdh.org.hk as early as possible. Please note that the application is only considered to be effective upon receiving a confirmation email from the Para-dental Training Centre.

 

#   Application fee is non-refundable and is HK$180 per application, regardless of the number of courses being applied for. Please note that sending cash by mail would NOT be accepted. If settle payment by crossed cheque, please ensure the cheque is made payable to “The Prince Philip Dental Hospital” and that there is enough money in the bank account. In the case of cheque bouncing, the Hospital has the right to disqualify the application immediately. Please write down the 1) Course name, 2) Applicant’s name, and 3) Applicant’s contact number on the backside of the cheque.

 

^     Underpaid mail items will not be accepted by the Hospital. To ensure mail items be duly received by the Hospital, please pay sufficient postage before posting.
