Introduction

The Hospital is established under The Prince Philip Dental Hospital Ordinance ( Chapter 1081 ), and funded by the Government. The primary function of the Hospital is to provide the facilities for the training of dentists, dental ancillary personnel and dental care professionals. The responsibility for the teaching activities is vested in the Faculty of Dentistry, the University of Hong Kong.

To be a global centre of excellence for dental education, research and oral healthcare.

Mission

(1)  To support the Faculty of Dentistry of The University of Hong Kong by embracing Innovation and Technology in training competent and well-qualified dentists and other oral healthcare professionals.

(2)  To support high-quality research and provide first-rate facilities for continuing professional development in Hong Kong.

(3)  To support the Government in advancing oral healthcare and well-being of the people in Hong Kong by raising the awareness of oral healthcare.

(4)  To create a healthy and people-oriented workplace that nurtures personal growth and teamwork among the staff; thus maximizing their potentials.

(5)  To work in close collaboration with the public and private sectors for the benefit of the community, and the national and international partners for research and academic exchange.

Dental Internship Programme Orientation Session at PPDH (8 Dec 2025)

A heartfelt farewell to the first batch of dental interns and a very warm welcome to the second batch of 18 dental interns starting their three-month clinical attachment at the PPDH today.

Dr Kenny Lau, Chairman of PPDH Board of Governors and Professor Cynthia Yiu, Director give inspiring words of encouragement, expressing full confidence in the new interns’ learning journey and looking forward to seeing their gains during these three months. 18 Dental House Officers confidently start their journey.

 

Hospital Visit from Yan Chai Hospital Secondary Schools: Seminar on Para-dental Training Courses (24 Nov 2025)

The hospital organized a seminar on Dental Care Professionals & other Dental Ancillary Personnel Training Courses for three Yan Chai Hospital affiliated secondary schools on 24 November 2025.

The event introduced course content and career paths to over 80 participating teachers and students from Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wha San Secondary School, Yan Chai Hospital No. 2 Secondary School, and Yan Chai Hospital Lim Por Yen Secondary School. Activities included a course overview, Q&A session, and a tour of the Simulation Laboratory.

We thank all attendees for their active involvement in this informative learning experience.

 

Silver Joy Dental Health Campaign for the “Healthy Ageing in Public Rental Housing Estates 2025” (23 May 2025)

The kick-off ceremony for the “Silver Joy Dental Health Campaign”, which marked PPDH’s collaboration with the Hong Kong Housing Authority and Hong Kong Dental Association, was successfully held on 23 May 2025. The campaign was part of the “Healthy Ageing in Public Rental Housing Estates 2025” programme, aiming at providing oral health information and oral care tips to the elderly residents.

The kick-off ceremony was taken place at “Domain” in Yau Tong and the “Silver Joy Dental Campaign” will continue in four housing estates in the coming months, offering free consultations for elderly residents.

The number of attendees joining the event on 23 May was about 680, of whom 140 participants enrolled on-site for oral examination at PPDH.

Joint Faculty-PPDH Retreat (1 March 2025)

A Faculty of Dentistry and Prince Philip Dental Hospital joint retreat was held on 1 March 2025 at the Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club.

About 40 people including Chairman and Members of the Board of Governors of the Hospital and the Acting Dean and senior members of the teaching and clinical team of the Faculty participated in the retreat.

This retreat fortified the collaboration between the Hospital and the Faculty towards the mission of the Hospital.
